The Quirimbas Archipelago in Northern Mozambique is without a doubt the perfect kitesurfing holiday destination. What makes it so special? Well, the Quirimbas Archipelago benefits from trade wind conditions all year round and being an island archipelago, offers crystal clear flat water, making it perfect for beginner and advanced kitesurfing. With 27 beautiful islands scattered along a 360km (200NM) stretch of pristine East African coastline, typical wind strengths of 15 to 25 knots, reef breaks on the western side of the Islands and protected waters on the eastern side, the Quirimbas is any kitesurfers dream playground.

The archipelago stretches from Pemba to the Tanzanian border and experiences Monsoon trade winds. The best time for a kitesurfing holiday is in winter (ideally April to August) when the SE monsoon winds are in full force. You can expect steady, predictable, South Easterly winds of around 15 to 25 knots. In summer the wind blows from a northerly direction and tends to be a little more variable. One can expect 3 to 4 days of strong winds (20 to 30 knots) and then 2 to 3 days of no wind at all. This makes for great fishing and diving though…

If you have seen the aerial photos of Ilha Quisiva, you will understand why we think we have one of the best islands for kitesurfing in the archipelago. The wind always blows across the 400m sand spit which extends into the tranquil blue waters of the archipelago on the eastern side, creating a lee shore on the northern side in winter and on the southern side in summer. This is the perfect spot to learn to kitesurf safely or to practice your wake-style tricks if you are more advanced. Also the butter smooth lee shore makes for a great speed strip. If wave riding is your thing, you can venture onto the reefs but watch the tide…

We also intend offering kitesurfing charters on one of our luxurious 60ft catamarans which can be seen on our website under “Yacht Charter”. On a 5 or 7 day charter, you can spend each day doing endless down winders from island to island, stopping on an island of your choice for a picnic lunch prepared by your chef. At the end of the day the catamaran will anchor in the lee of one of these spectacular islands, where you will be pampered with a 3 course meal in luxury. All the activities on the yacht are included, so if the wind doesn't blow, you can enjoy scuba diving, kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, exploring the islands and much more...

Oh, and the best part is that the area is pretty remote and has probably only seen a handful of kitesurfers, so you won’t have to compete for space!
